SafetyPublic transport is the safest way to travel. Crime and vandalism affecting buses and trains is also relatively low. Nevertheless, our first priority will always be the safety and security of our customers and our people. We have a good safety record, however we continuously monitor and review our performance to improve further. Safety governance:- Health and safety is monitored and reported on across the Group and appropriate action is taken to address any major issues that are identified.
- Our Group Health, Safety and Environment Committee update the Board on safety matters at each of its meetings.
- We ensure we meet safety regulations in each of our areas of operation and carry out regular safety audits of our facilities.
Buses and trains:- We work in partnership with the Government and other agencies to improve bus safety and security, investing in CCTV systems, driver training, and community education and road safety programmes.
- Special night bus services in some of our major city operations help ensure people have a safe way of getting home.
- Safety is at the heart of the design of our buses and trains and we work closely with manufacturers on the specification of our vehicles
- Our trains, stations and car parks are fitted with CCTV systems and we also provide help points to reassure customers and deter crime.
- We work closely with British Transport Police and also help fund Rail Community Officers. Our own staff are also trained in conflict resolution techniques.
- Our work to improve safety at railway level crossings has been recognised with an independent award.
- In North America, we have assisted national bodies on measures to combat potential terrorist attacks on public transport and work with the Federal Government on workshops for our employees.
